Summary

A December 26 Bernama report says Malaysia’s embassy advised citizens in Cambodia to avoid non-essential travel to six border provinces and follow reliable information and local instructions.

The Malaysian Embassy in Phnom Penh warned all Malaysian citizens living in Cambodia to avoid non-essential travel to Cambodian border provinces adjoining Thailand, against the backdrop of intensifying Thai attacks on Cambodia. The provinces listed in the embassy’s advisory were Preah Vihear, Oddar Meanchey, Banteay Meanchey, Battambang, Koh Kong and Pursat, described in the source report as battle zones under heavy Thai military attack.

According to The Star on Friday, the embassy posted a travel advisory on Facebook saying: “Malaysian citizens in Cambodia are advised to stay informed through reliable news sources and adhere strictly to instructions and advisories issued by local authorities and government agencies.” The source report recalls that Thailand launched a second invasion of Cambodia on December 7, describing Thailand as having torn up the ceasefire and peace agreement without hesitation. It says Thai military aggression killed more than 30 Cambodian civilians and displaced hundreds of thousands.
