Summary

The December 27 GBC joint statement provided for the 18 soldiers’ return after the noon ceasefire was fully upheld for 72 hours; the report said they had been held for 151 days that morning.

The 18 Cambodian soldiers hailed in the report as heroes would be released and returned to Cambodia after the ceasefire taking effect at noon that Saturday had been fully respected for 72 hours. This was based on the joint statement of the third special General Border Committee (GBC) meeting between Cambodia and Thailand on the morning of Saturday, December 27, 2025, led by the two countries’ defence ministers. Both sides agreed to implement an immediate ceasefire from noon that day.

The ceasefire required both sides to avoid unprovoked firing, advances or troop movements towards the other side’s positions or forces. Neither side was to violate the agreement under any circumstances. The report recalled that, by that Saturday morning, the 18 Cambodian soldiers had been captured and held by the Thai military for 151 days.
