Summary

In his January 7 Victory Day message, Hun Sen reaffirmed protection of the people and territorial integrity, a just and lasting peace, and national unity.

Senate President and Cambodian People’s Party President Hun Sen, in a message marking the 47th anniversary of January 7 Victory Day, said 2026 was the third year of the government under the National Assembly’s seventh legislature. It would pursue further achievements in implementing its political programme, with a firm commitment to protecting the people and territorial integrity.

The statement came as Cambodia continued to face complex international developments, global economic uncertainty and a weakening rules-based international order. The report particularly described Thailand as having launched a war that flagrantly violated Cambodia’s territorial integrity along the border.

In these grave circumstances, Hun Sen said, the Cambodian government had maintained restraint, goodwill and sincerity, working through every mechanism and in accordance with international law to resolve the border issue with Thailand peacefully. In particular, it had strictly implemented the ceasefire agreed on July 28 and the Kuala Lumpur Joint Declaration of October 26. But, he said, Thailand had expanded its attacks, making the situation more serious and disastrous for the people of both countries.

According to the Senate president, Cambodia reaffirmed its firm commitment to its main goals: ending the people’s suffering, preventing destruction and continuing towards peace through a just and lasting solution. At the same time, Cambodia would make no concession on its sovereignty or dignity.

Hun Sen stressed: “We remember this history, remember the crimes of destroying the cultural heritage that is the soul of our nation, and remember the insults the aggressors inflicted on our nation, homeland and people.” He therefore called on compatriots everywhere to remain united as one under the motto “Nation, Religion, King”, and to rally around the government with firm faith in their just cause. “Unity means survival, unity means victory, and no force can destroy our will,” was the message he wished to emphasise to his compatriots.
