On the morning of January 8, 2026, the National Bank of Cambodia notified Prince Bank Plc. depositors that they could withdraw their funds, provided they prepared the required documents and followed the order of priority under the Law on Banking and Financial Institutions. Prince Bank borrowers must also continue meeting their normal repayment obligations.
The notice further said NBC had appointed Morison Kak to take control of and administer all Prince Bank operations and assets from the time of the notice onward. NBC and the relevant ministries and institutions would continue closely and cautiously monitoring the interim administration to protect depositors and other customers. Prince Bank was suspended from providing new banking services, including accepting deposits and granting credit.
The clarification followed Cambodian authorities’ arrest of Chen Zhi, founder and owner of Prince Group, together with two other Chinese nationals, Xu Ji Liang and Shao Ji Hui. Chen Zhi was arrested and sent to the People’s Republic of China. According to the Interior Ministry’s January 7 announcement, his Cambodian citizenship had been revoked in December 2025.
