To strengthen and further develop tourism in Sihanoukville province, Sihanoukville city governor Sor Kakada announced a strict ban on beach vendors exploiting tourists through overcharging in any form.
According to the city governor’s official Facebook page on the morning of January 9, 2026, he instructed beach vendors to help promote tourism in Sihanoukville city. Alongside that instruction, he strictly prohibited overcharging tourists. This means that if vendors continue to exploit tourists in this way, the city authorities will take tough action without exception.
Previously, Sihanoukville city authorities removed a food vendor from a beach, telling the vendor to find another place to trade and prohibiting further sales on the beach. The report said this was probably because the vendor had overcharged tourists visiting the province’s beaches during the 2026 international New Year holiday. This case may also have prompted further measures by city governor Sor Kakada. He instructed public-beach vendors to stop leaving tables, chairs, mats, hammocks or other items on beaches, which spoils their appearance and affects their public character, and to allow tourists to use those beach spaces publicly.
