Authorities in Mondulkiri and Ratanakiri provinces urged residents to pay close attention to their health, particularly older people, women and children, as temperatures dropped sharply to 13–14°C.
According to a notice from Mondulkiri’s Department of Water Resources and Meteorology, temperatures had fallen as low as 13°C, with the cold continuing through January 11, 2026. Ratanakiri’s water resources department also said temperatures in its province had fallen to 14°C and would remain cold through January 14. The sharp cooling was attributed to the northeast monsoon.
The two provincial water resources departments therefore urged residents to be attentive and cautious about sharply colder weather and strong gusts, to avoid diseases that might arise among people, animals and plants, with particular attention to the health of older people, women and children.
A January 6 notice from the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology said temperatures as low as 14°C would affect some provinces and the Cardamom, Dangrek and Bokor mountain ranges through January 15, 2026. The provinces affected by the sharp cooling included Oddar Meanchey, Pailin, Preah Vihear, Kratie, Ratanakiri, Mondulkiri, Kampong Speu and Stung Treng.
