On the evening of January 9, 2026, an anti-tank mine left over from the wars of the 1980s–90s exploded, almost completely destroying a modified vehicle carrying cassava. Fortunately, no one was injured or killed in the incident.
Heng Ratana, Director-General of the Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC), said on his Facebook page on January 10 that the driver of the modified cassava-carrying vehicle survived without injury in the anti-tank mine explosion in Veal Vong village, Ta Sda commune, Sampov Loun district, Battambang province. Heng Ratana remarked: “The old remnants of war have not even been cleared away, and new remnants of war are being added.” By: Nget Pisant
