Siem Reap provincial police intercepted two vehicles illegally transporting about 28 tonnes of clams at two separate locations in Chikreng and Sotr Nikum districts on the night of January 9, 2026. One driver was arrested and another fled.
The General Commissariat of National Police said on January 11 that the operation followed instructions from National Police Commissioner-General General Sar Thet, was directly commanded by Siem Reap Police Commissioner Major-General Huot Sothy, and involved procedural coordination by Sieng Sok, prosecutor at the prosecution office attached to the provincial Court of First Instance.
Police detained Phi Sopheak, a 36-year-old man, for transporting clams without a permit in a green SsangYong vehicle with Phnom Penh licence plate 2H-3460. Officers found 150 sacks of clams weighing 7,500 kilograms. The suspect lives in Krachab village, Prey Khla commune, Svay Antor district, Prey Veng province.
The other vehicle, a sky-blue ISUZU, bore the right-hand-drive identifier KCHH-0056 and Phnom Penh licence plate 3B-0930. Officers found it carrying 21,250 kilograms of clams without a permit. The vehicle’s owner fled.
Following the operation, officers seized a total of 28,750 kilograms of clams and two transport vehicles. Specialist officers are preparing the case file on the suspect and evidence for referral to officials of the Siem Reap Fisheries Administration Cantonment under the provincial Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries for further procedures.
