Summary

A March 13 meeting considered charter links, tourism and trade, education support and promotion of Cambodian products in Japan.

In Phnom Penh, the report said Cambodia and Japan were considering charter links from Phnom Penh and Siem Reap to Okinawa to increase tourist exchanges and strengthen economic cooperation.

The proposal was discussed at a March 13, 2026 working meeting involving Sin Saray, commercial attaché at the Cambodian embassy in Japan, Jumbo Tours Co., Ltd. president Tanimura Shoki and Sat Vicheary, representing Siem Reap’s Magokoro Cambodia.

The parties discussed cooperation in tourism, trade, investment and human resource development, viewing the proposed charters as a strategic step towards more travel in both directions.

They also discussed continuing education support through school buildings and learning materials for disadvantaged students in Siem Reap, and a proposed Japanese-language training school to support Cambodian skills development.

A proposal for a Khmer restaurant in Okinawa was also raised to promote Khmer food and products more widely in Japan.

According to the account, the two companies had cooperated on bringing Cambodian products to Japan since mid-2025, focusing on Kampot pepper, pickled pepper and Kampot salt. These were being supplied to major Okinawa restaurants and hotels, including Hyatt Regency Okinawa, Sheraton Okinawa Sunmarina Resort and Hotel JAL City Naha.

The commercial attaché also attended FOODEX Japan 2026 at Tokyo Big Sight to support Cambodian product promotion and expand international business networks.

The report expected the cooperation proposals to strengthen future bilateral tourism and trade. By: KPS 99TV
