Summary

Un Chanda called for protection of temples, antiquities and Khmer weaving traditions at a March 25 cultural celebration.

At the 2026 celebration of the 28th National Culture Day, observed on March 3, under the theme “Youth for National Culture”, Kampong Cham Governor Un Chanda urged residents living near ancient temples to help conserve and protect the heritage their Khmer ancestors left to future generations. He called for collective promotion of Khmer culture and traditions as the soul of the nation.

Provincial council chairman Khlot Phon and Governor Un Chanda attended the ceremony at Kampong Cham Provincial Hall on March 25, 2026.

The governor instructed the Department of Culture and Fine Arts to continue inspections and prevent encroachment on temples, temple land, antiquities and temple sculptures, ensuring that ancestral heritage endures.

He also urged the department to seek more antiquities for the national collection and preserve them in museums where the public can appreciate and remember their cultural value. It should encourage residents to weave traditional Khmer krama scarves, support local products, improve weaving families’ livelihoods and preserve longstanding Khmer cultural traditions and customs.
