The report says the war in the Middle East is putting pressure on energy and public finances. Cambodia’s Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts has instructed its units to conserve fuel and electricity to reduce expenditure from the national budget.
The ministry’s March 25 measures include fewer work trips, online meetings using tools such as Zoom, less air-conditioning and switching off unnecessary lights. The report also cites similar energy-saving measures by the information and interior ministries, border affairs authorities and Electricité du Cambodge, and says other institutions may follow if the situation worsens.
Citing Ministry of Commerce figures, the report says that from March 26 until further notice regular petrol costs 5,450 riel per litre, up 50 riel, while diesel rises by 400 riel per litre to more than 7,000 riel.
Minister of Mines and Energy Keo Rottanak called on March 23 for the public not to panic over fuel and LPG supply, while conserving fuel, gas and electricity.
