The ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) visited the Prey Chan village area in Banteay Meanchey on the morning of March 28 to observe border conditions and follow implementation of the ceasefire and related agreements with Thailand, as Cambodia welcomed additional military personnel from Singapore and Malaysia.
Cambodian Defence Ministry spokesperson Lieutenant General Maly Socheata said the Cambodian Liaison Group (CLG) facilitated the AOT’s observation, verification and reporting on border conditions in Prey Chan that Saturday morning.
She said the mission involved the handover from the outgoing Malaysian observer-team leader to the Philippines, which would continue leading the AOT in Cambodia in its capacity as rotating ASEAN Chair.
The Cambodian government and Defence Ministry reaffirmed their firm, sincere and responsible commitment to fully and consistently implement the Joint Statement of the Third Special Cambodia–Thailand GBC Meeting, the Joint Declaration on the Cambodia–Thailand Peace Agreement and other relevant agreements, seeking swift improvement, normality and lasting peace and stability.
