King Norodom Sihamoni of Cambodia and Queen Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk would remain in Beijing for a further period. The Ministry of the Royal Palace said health matters required continued medical monitoring.
In its March 31 announcement, the ministry said careful examinations by the medical team at a Beijing hospital had not yet been completed and some health matters still required follow-up. Chinese doctors therefore advised the two royal family members to extend their stay for further examinations and treatment, rather than return home for the time being. The ministry also conveyed their affectionate greetings to the Cambodian people ahead of Khmer Traditional New Year.
The King and Queen Mother left Cambodia on February 27, 2026, for health checks in Beijing. During the King’s examinations and treatment in China, Senate President Hun Sen was acting as Cambodia’s head of state.
