The inter-ministerial technical committee of the national public-service unit assessment commission visited Hun Sen Mittapheap Primary School in Sihanoukville on the morning of April 2, 2026. The on-site assessment followed the school’s selection as a candidate for recognition as a model public-service unit in education for 2025.
During the visit, committee members questioned teachers, parents and relevant authorities to inform their assessment before deciding on progression to the next stage and eventual award selection. They also split into groups to inspect the grounds, sanitation, environment and, in particular, teaching and learning.
Principal Kim Chheng said the assessment was important for improving public-school quality and encouraging Hun Sen Mittapheap Primary School to develop further with support from the community, leaders, donors and development partners. She said the aim was to provide quality, equitable and inclusive education to local children, strengthening knowledge, skills, discipline, ethics and good conduct alongside health and physical fitness.
Preah Sihanouk Deputy Governor Samut Sothearith expressed determination to seek awards for both schools nominated by the province: Hun Sen Mittapheap Primary School and Samdech Ov Lower Secondary School. They were competing for the 2025 model public-service unit award in education. He stressed that participation in government education reform and achieving shared goals mattered most, and described education as essential to developing a strong next generation.
