The Cambodian government has formally protested Thai actions in Chouk Chey village, Banteay Meanchey, and at the O’Smach International Border Gate and in Anlong Veng district, Oddar Meanchey, describing the locations as Cambodian territory and the actions as unlawful. According to the Cambodian account, between March 31 and April 2, 2026, Thai forces led a group of Thai citizens to verify land ownership along the border between boundary pillars 45 and 47 in Chouk Chey village. Cambodia says this unilateral activity seeks to create a fait accompli on the ground and pre-empt the outcome of demarcation work under the two countries’ Joint Boundary Commission (JBC).
Cambodia further reports that on April 2, 2026, about 70 Thai soldiers and two armoured vehicles were deployed at O’Smach International Border Gate in Samraong city, Oddar Meanchey, with additional barbed wire installed. It says Thai armed forces also deployed heavy machinery to clear land near the current Boundary Pillar No. 2 in Anlong Veng district that day.
Cambodia says these actions cannot be considered defensive or consistent with the Joint Statement of the Third Special General Border Committee (GBC) Meeting of December 27, 2025. It describes them as violations of agreed de-escalation measures and Thai commitments under existing bilateral agreements. The Cambodian government reiterates that it does not recognise or accept unilateral boundary lines or territorial claims.
Cambodia reaffirms its firm commitment to peacefully resolving border disputes with Thailand and all neighbouring countries in accordance with international law, maintaining that borders cannot be changed by force. By: KPS99TV.
