Summary

APSARA says restoration finished in March 2026, strengthening stonework and the building, while a trial with two lintel-supporting pillars continues.

The APSARA National Authority says careful restoration of the northern library on Angkor Wat’s second level, undertaken in accordance with the Angkor Charter, has been completed.

Project manager ម៉ៅ សុខនី said work began in November 2025 and was completed in March 2026. The project repaired and consolidated deteriorated stone in the foundations, walls, carvings and roof to restore stability.

Experts said the library had been closed to visitors before restoration because loose and unstable stones posed a risk of falling. The project manager explained that work had two components: consolidating the stone itself and repairing and strengthening the library’s structural infrastructure.

The team is also conducting a trial using two pillars to support the lintel and further strengthen the structure.

Experts hope the restored northern library will offer another attraction for visitors to Angkor Wat after years of closure. Visitors would also be able to appreciate its fine apsara carvings and learn more about the library’s functions and construction.
