According to the report, Cambodia’s Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts issued a statement on the evening of April 13 strongly protesting Thai activities in cultural-heritage areas that the ministry described as under Cambodian sovereignty. It said the temples named Tamone Thom, Ta Krabey Temple and K’nar Temple and their surrounding areas lay within Cambodian territory and expressed serious concern over the Thai presence and activities there.
The Cambodian ministry said road construction, installation of statues and organised public visits by Thai authorities were intended to create facts on the ground and infringed Cambodia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. It urged Thailand to stop the activities immediately and withdraw personnel, armed forces and equipment deployed in the disputed areas.
The statement reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to pursuing a peaceful settlement and called on Thailand to engage responsibly in bilateral mechanisms, including the Cambodia–Thailand Joint Boundary Commission (JBC), honour existing agreements and act within the framework of international law to maintain regional stability.
