According to an interview report published by Thailand’s Matichon on April 24, 2026, Thai Prime Minister Anutin spoke to reporters at 14:09 that day at Government House in Bangkok about his talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. Anutin said China had told Thailand that it had visited Cambodia and conveyed Cambodia’s position towards Thailand.
In Matichon’s account of the questions and answers, Anutin said China had conveyed that Cambodia no longer wanted fighting, confrontation or conflict. He also said China was willing to mediate to resolve the differences. He said he had replied that Thailand did not want conflict with any neighbouring country either, but restoring relations required rules, an agreed direction and mutual trust; it could not happen overnight. He also said opening border checkpoints had not yet been discussed.
File photo.Commentary in KPS99TV’s original report argues that Chinese diplomatic communication could help ease tensions. If Cambodia and Thailand gradually rebuild trust and maintain border stability, this could create conditions for practical cooperation, including action against transnational crime. Such prospects would still depend on further communication and the rebuilding of mutual trust.
