Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet said Japan’s government and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) had made leading contributions to Cambodia’s development across sectors. He highlighted support for port infrastructure and management, transport infrastructure, wastewater-treatment system management, studies for major road and bridge projects, and master planning for Cambodia’s logistics system. This support included concessional loans, grants and technical assistance. He also thanked Japan for receiving Cambodian workers under good and reliable conditions.
Hun Manet said Japan had played a leading role in helping develop and expand Sihanoukville Autonomous Port’s capacity since 1996. He spoke on the morning of May 1, 2026, at a gathering with the port’s civil servants, staff, workers and employees marking the 140th anniversary of International Workers’ Day and the 30th anniversary of Japanese official development assistance to the port, 1996–2026.
