Summary

The report describes អ៊ី ធារិន visiting an orchard in Samrong commune to review durian, rambutan and vanilla production and encourage improved techniques and planting suited to market demand.

According to the report, អ៊ី ធារិន, governor of Prey Nob district in Preah Sihanouk province, led a team to inspect agricultural production at the orchard of ថុង សេដ្ឋា in Samrong commune.

The visit focused on main and supplementary crops approaching harvest, including durian and rambutan, which the report described as having strong market demand, and vanilla, described as a new crop with substantial economic value. Growing supplementary crops was presented as a way to use the land efficiently.

The report says the district governor gave a positive assessment of the quality of local produce that year and its ability to meet market demand. He praised the orchard owner and his wife, as well as other farmers, for their cultivation practices and careful crop management.

He encouraged farmers to improve product quality and competitiveness, modernise production methods to reduce costs and increase yields, and use idle land for further planting in line with the season and market demand.

He also asked local authorities and other parties to continue working together to provide agricultural technical support, encourage participation and sustain production to improve livelihoods.

The orchard owner, ថុង សេដ្ឋា, said he had more than 500 durian trees and planted at least 100 more each year in response to rising market demand. He said a harvest season could produce over 30 tonnes, with selling prices starting at 15,000 riel per kilogram. Buyers came directly to the orchard, reducing the difficulty of finding a market.

He added that durian required careful site selection and management, but that in his own experience different soil types could support it when the crop was properly cared for and suitable techniques were used. He planned to expand planting further to contribute to local agriculture and increase his family’s income.
