Phnom Penh: According to the original report, Minister of Information Neth Pheaktra urged and encouraged the Chinese media association and Chinese-language media organisations to strengthen professional and responsible reporting standards, help counter false information and share accurate information about Cambodia widely with Chinese readers and viewers.
He made the remarks at a meeting with representatives of the Chinese media association and Chinese-language news organisations at the Ministry of Information on the morning of May 4, 2026, to discuss media progress and ways to improve reporting quality in Cambodia.
Neth Pheaktra said cooperation between Cambodian and Chinese media has an important role in improving news quality, promoting balanced reporting and combating false or distorted information that could affect the country’s reputation and investment environment.
The meeting also focused on increasing positive coverage of Cambodia’s tourism, investment and development potential to attract more Chinese tourists and investors.
The minister said Cambodia had previously been affected by false information created by some social-media users, which he said distorted facts and undermined confidence in the country. He therefore called on all news organisations to verify their sources clearly before publishing.
He also urged Chinese-language media to continue providing balanced, clearly sourced and comprehensive reporting to improve understanding, restore trust in the media and further strengthen friendship between the peoples of Cambodia and China. Written by: សុខ ស៊ីណាន
