Koh Rong, Cambodia, is ninth on the publisher’s The World’s 50 Best Beaches 2026 list.
According to រាជ សុវណ្ណ, the municipal authorities have prioritised hygiene and environmental protection by organising regular beach cleaning in key areas. Private businesses have also participated actively, helping maintain the coastline’s appearance and appeal to visitors.
The report says domestic and international visitors to Koh Rong also help maintain cleanliness by putting rubbish in bins provided by the authorities at various locations.
The report describes strict measures against environmental pollution, particularly the discharge of wastewater into the sea. It says the government and relevant ministries and institutions provide technical and financial support to help keep the sand and seawater clean and maintain their quality.
Koh Rong municipal authorities have also continued outreach to residents and business owners, urging them not to discharge wastewater into the sea and to install proper wastewater-treatment systems. The report describes these measures as important for preserving the beaches and their long-term tourism appeal. By: Pai Sokhim
