According to the report, Cambodian Acting Head of State Hun Sen highlighted the role of salt production in Kampot and Kep in supplying other provinces during a meeting on the morning of May 9, 2026 with provincial, municipal, district, commune and sangkat council members and departmental leaders from the two provinces.
Speaking after the meeting, Hun Sen’s spokesperson ជា ធីរិទ្ធ said Hun Sen had discussed the provinces’ distinctive industrial structure, with relatively little light industry but heavy industries such as cement production and hydropower.
The report said Hun Sen described salt production as a distinctive feature of Kampot and Kep and highlighted its contribution to nationwide supply.
Hun Sen called on the Kampot authorities to encourage salt producers to take shared responsibility for public health by producing iodized salt to help reduce goitre and other iodine-deficiency disorders and support consumers’ health.
The report said he commended officials at all levels in the two provinces for working together on local development and urged continued efforts in public service delivery, especially maintaining security and public order and preventing social disturbances.
