Svay Rieng: According to the report, the provincial police issued a press clarification responding to a Facebook post. The post alleged that a Chinese national referred to as “ប៉ាសឹង”, who worked in engineering and construction design, had his passport taken by Svay Rieng police and was summoned to provide information, but was afraid to attend because he feared detention.
According to the Svay Rieng police statement reproduced with the article and dated May 10, 2026, police received a company representative’s complaint on February 11 concerning alleged unlawful deprivation of liberty and intentional property damage in Bavet on February 4. Police say criminal-investigation officers visited the scene on February 12 to investigate and gather evidence, and considered that the circumstances corresponded to the complaint.
The police statement says the Chinese nationals concerned were called in for questioning by police and provincial labour and vocational-training officials, and that nine Chinese nationals voluntarily handed passports to the labour department for the matter to be addressed.
Police further say that by March 20, after learning that the labour department had finished handling the matter, police proceeded with further steps concerning the original complaint. The statement says eight attended to provide information and police returned their passports. One passport remained uncollected because its holder had not yet appeared to provide information.
