A long-tail fishing boat sank at sea off Preah Sihanouk at about 1 a.m. on May 18, 2026. After receiving the report, Tea Vichet (ទៀ វិចិត្រ) dispatched a rescue team and a high-speed boat to collect the fisherman.

According to Tea Vichet, the fisherman had been alone on the vessel. He swam in the sea after it sank before a nearby fishing boat spotted him and brought him safely aboard. Assistance was then requested to transport him back to the mainland.

The man was identified in the report as មួន មុំ, a fisherman originally from Prey Sla village, Prey Pnov commune, Pea Reang district, Prey Veng province.

The fisherman said rain and strong winds had generated large waves. While he was heading home, waves struck his boat and caused it to sink. The report said he had been rescued safely and his life was no longer in danger. By Pai Sokhim.
