Cambodia’s prison department said 790 male convicts described as gang offenders were transferred on May 21, 2026, to continue their sentences: 651 to Correctional Centre No. 4 in Pursat and 139 to Oddar Meanchey Provincial Prison. According to the report, Prime Minister Hun Manet recommended on April 26, 2026, that the Ministry of Justice, the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces High Command and the National Police consider arrangements for convicted gang offenders to assist frontline and engineering units through suitable work, including preparing moulds for trench structures.

On May 21, 2026, the General Department of Prisons transferred 790 male convicts described as gang offenders from correctional centres and capital and provincial prisons to continue serving their sentences at two designated facilities: 651 at Correctional Centre No. 4 in Pursat province and 139 at Oddar Meanchey Provincial Prison.

The department said the transfers were intended to strengthen rehabilitation through vocational training, help prisoners develop skills and enable work supporting frontline forces.

A General Department of Prisons press release said the training included agricultural skills such as vegetable growing and animal husbandry, and construction skills such as casting trench covers and other concrete structures to support forces deployed to defend national sovereignty.
