Summary

Defence spokesperson Maly Socheata rejected a Thai allegation linking Cambodian forces to five gunshots in the Phnom Bak area. Cambodia responded to a report posted by the Thai Army spokesperson team on May 22, 2026, and called for compliance with the December 27, 2025, joint statement on combating misinformation.

Cambodian defence spokesperson Lieutenant General Maly Socheata (ម៉ាលី សុជាតា) rejected Thailand’s allegation that Cambodian forces were responsible for five gunshots in the Phnom Bak area of Samraong city, Oddar Meanchey province. She described the report as false and intended to mislead the public and heighten border tensions. These assessments were Cambodia’s stated position.

The response followed a report posted on the Thai Army spokesperson team’s page on the morning of May 22, 2026, alleging that five gunshots were heard in Phnom Bak and that Cambodian forces were responsible.

The spokesperson said Cambodia could not accept repeated reports by the Thai military and media that it considered false, saying they damaged the honour of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces and mutual trust. She called on Thailand to stop such reporting and fully and faithfully implement existing agreements, particularly Point 8 of the December 27, 2025, joint statement on combating misinformation, to rebuild trust and support peaceful dispute resolution in accordance with international law and existing bilateral treaties and agreements.
