On May 22, 2026, Cambodian defence spokesperson Maly Socheata (ម៉ាលី សុជាតា) responded to a border gunfire report published on a Thai Army-related page. The Thai report alleged that five gunshots in the Phnom Bak area of Samraong, Oddar Meanchey province, were linked to Cambodian forces. Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defence rejected the allegation.
The ministry said the Thai account was false, could mislead the public and could affect peace along the border. These assessments were the position set out in the Cambodian statement.
The ministry said Thailand had previously published information it considered false and that such conduct could damage the reputation of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces and mutual trust.
Cambodia urged Thailand to stop disseminating false information and to implement the agreement in Point 8 of the joint statement dated December 27, 2025, on working together to combat misinformation that could harm bilateral relations.
Cambodia reaffirmed its commitment to existing peace arrangements, including the joint statement of the Third Special Meeting of the Cambodia–Thailand General Border Committee (GBC), and to resolving border disputes through peaceful dialogue.
Cambodia also reaffirmed its commitment to the October 26, 2025, Joint Declaration on the Peace Agreement between Cambodia and Thailand and other relevant agreements, with the aim of restoring normalcy and lasting peace and stability.
