Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet instructed the Ministry of Health to maintain measures to prevent and respond to Ebola and hantavirus outbreaks. He issued the directive at the Council of Ministers meeting on May 22, 2026, as WHO raised the national public-health risk assessment for the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo from high to very high amid the rapidly evolving outbreak.
At the time of the original May 23 report, Cambodia had not detected cases of either disease, according to the report. The prime minister nevertheless instructed relevant ministries and institutions to cooperate further with the Ministry of Health, strengthen surveillance and public awareness, and ensure prevention and response mechanisms were ready.
He also called on ministries and institutions to continue public education through media platforms and educational videos, helping people understand the importance of cooperation, including giving priority to ambulances and following official instructions. He described such cooperation as a shared responsibility in saving lives.
