Summary

Pailin authorities inspected five locations in Pailin city and Sala Krao district on May 23, 2026. Seventeen foreigners staying near one location were detained for document checks and further procedures; the report did not establish their guilt.

On May 23, 2026, Pailin Governor Ban Srey Mom, who chaired the Provincial Unified Command, led joint law-enforcement officers, working with the provincial court prosecutor, to inspect locations suspected of involvement in online scams in Pailin city and Sala Krao district.
The operation covered five locations, including rental houses, hotels, guesthouses and resorts suspected of concealing illegal activities linked to online scams.
Authorities raided one location and seized items suspected of being used for illegal activities. They also detained 17 foreign nationals staying near that location to check their documents and prepare case files in accordance with legal procedures.
Authorities said the administrative inspection campaign would continue in residential clusters and key locations across the province, with checkpoints on major national roads to strengthen security and public order.
The provincial authorities said the operation aimed to tighten safety management and prevent foreigners from staying illegally in hotels, guesthouses, resorts, rental houses and casino premises, in order to prevent and combat human trafficking and online scam crimes more effectively.
