Kampot province: Provincial authorities rejected claims circulating on social media that children had been abducted in the province.
Kampot provincial police chief Mao Chanmathurith said on the morning of May 30, 2026, that, as of that time, no child-abduction cases or related suspicious activity had occurred in the province as alleged in the posts.
He urged residents to be cautious and not believe information without a clear source. A widely shared claim that “child abductions have reached Kampot province” had caused fear and confusion in local communities.
Police also said they were investigating account holders or other individuals who had created and circulated the false information, with a view to taking legal action.
