After transfer to Correctional Centre No. 4 and a prison in a border province, 790 convicted gang members are actively growing vegetables, raising animals and casting bunker covers. According to the Interior Ministry’s General Department of Prisons, the 790 prisoners are also making other concrete structures to support frontline forces stationed to defend national sovereignty.
The transfers followed recommendations from Prime Minister Hun Manet. Of the prisoners, 651 were sent to Correctional Centre No. 4 in Pursat province and 139 to Oddar Meanchey provincial prison. Reports from the two institutions say the prisoners are participating in measures introduced by the Interior Ministry to strengthen correction and rehabilitation through vocational training, build personal skills and serve the nation and homeland.
