Public Works and Transport Minister Peng Ponea said the ministry planned sensor systems on freight and passenger vehicles to control speeding and help reduce road crashes.
Speaking to reporters during a June 7 road-safety campaign along National Road 6A in មុខកំពូល district, Kandal, he explained that sensors were planned for large vehicles, tourist vehicles and trucks. They would alert when vehicles exceeded speed limits, allowing companies to act immediately against offending drivers.
Asked when the system would begin, he said the ministry and passenger and freight transport companies had agreed in principle and were selecting suitable technology for introduction soon. The ministry would also provide traffic-law training to transport companies to help reduce crashes.
According to Deputy National Police Commissioner General ហ៊ឹម យ៉ាន, crashes increased slightly in the first five months of 2026 from the preceding year, while the fatality rate rose about 10% and injuries increased by more than 100 people. The report links the rise to May worker-transport crashes in Kampong Chhnang and Svay Rieng that injured over 100 people and killed 14.
