Summary

Officials say the SCMF project added 50 box-like units comprising 1,000 components after an earlier 20 units comprising 400 components, to restore coastal ecosystems and marine habitats.

Koh Kong’s Fisheries Administration cantonment deployed 50 box-like artificial fish-habitat structures in the community fishery waters of Chrouy Svay commune, Srae Ambel district, to help restore fisheries ecosystems and provide more habitats for fish and other marine animals.
អ៊ិន ណែត, an official of the Fisheries Administration cantonment under Koh Kong’s Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, said on June 10, 2026, that the activity was carried out under the Sustainable Coastal and Marine Fisheries Management project (SCMF), aiming to restore fisheries resources, improve ecosystems and promote sustainable marine resources.
He said artificial fish habitats provided important places for fish to hide, breed and shelter safely, while increasing seabed biodiversity. They also helped filter water and create food sources for marine animals, he said.
According to technical officials, during the first quarter of SCMF implementation the team had already deployed 20 box-like units, equivalent to 400 components. In this second phase, another 50 units, equivalent to 1,000 components, were added.
អ៊ិន ណែត said Chrouy Svay’s community fishery was rich in marine and mangrove biodiversity, providing habitats for blood cockles, mussels, squid, shrimp, crabs and many types of juvenile fish. He said numerous marine animals were already living around and attaching to the structures, which he described as evidence of the project’s effectiveness in creating habitats and restoring fisheries resources.
