Cambodia–Japan trade is growing strongly. The report interprets the figures as demonstrating Japanese investors’ confidence in Cambodia’s business environment.
According to General Department of Customs and Excise figures cited in the article, bilateral trade exceeded US$1.2 billion in January–May 2026, up 17.2% from the same period a year earlier.
The report describes the result as reflecting deeper economic and trade cooperation and supporting Cambodia’s full-year foreign-trade growth.
In the first five months, Cambodian exports to Japan reached US$766 million, up 20.6%, while imports from Japan reached US$434 million, up 11.8%.
Cambodia Chamber of Commerce vice-president 林兴 attributed much of the continued trade growth to the implementation and effective operation of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership, RCEP.
The report says bilateral trade spans nearly all major sectors, with clothing, accessories and some agricultural products particularly prominent.
It also cites the previous full year’s trade at more than US$2.53 billion, up 17.14%. Cambodian exports to Japan were US$1.57 billion, up 11.86%, and imports were US$956 million, up 27%.
The report concludes that renewed growth in early 2026 indicates sustained bilateral cooperation, a leading role in Cambodia’s international economic ties and wider opportunities for local manufacturing and agriculture.
