The National Assembly passed a bill amending the Law on Roads on the morning of June 22, with the bill expected to be placed on the Senate agenda soon. It was adopted during an extraordinary session of the seventh legislature, chaired by National Assembly President Khuon Sudary.
The bill amends 15 articles of the Law on Roads, promulgated by Royal Kram on May 4, 2014, to respond to the country’s socioeconomic development.
The articles concerned are 25, 26, 48, 49, 50, 56, 57, 58, 59, 60, 61, 66, 67, 68 and 69.
The Minister of Public Works and Transport, representing the Royal Government, said the amendments respond to private-sector requests and actual socioeconomic development and are a priority under Phase I of the Pentagonal Strategy. They adjust maximum load limits on the road network, settlement fines and penalty provisions for violations of those limits.
