Water Resources and Meteorology Minister ថោ ជេដ្ឋា, accompanied by Kampong Cham Governor អ៊ុន ចាន់ដា and relevant specialists, inspected a previously collapsed Mekong riverbank near កំពង់រង់ចាំ in Kampong Cham city on 29 June to prepare construction of new bank-protection works.
The provincial Information Department quoted nearby residents as saying the collapse of the road and Mekong bank had caused concern for their lives and for road users. They said the governor’s intervention and plan for new bank protection had helped address their concerns and facilitate daily life and travel.
អ៊ុន ចាន់ដា said the ministry and provincial authorities would work closely to speed up construction of durable, high-quality bank protection.
The report recalled that the Mekong bank collapsed on the night of 30 January 2026 at Village 15, Kampong Cham commune, Kampong Cham city and province, without causing harm to road users. It attributed the collapse to the site’s position in front of a swirling pool 1.2–6 metres deep. The listed damage was: (1) upper section, collapsed paving 70 metres long and 1.1 metres wide, with heights of 0.3–1.6 metres; (2) lower section, collapsed concrete 70 metres long and 32 metres wide, including a 35-metre section described as at risk, with heights of 0.1–0.3 metres.
