Summary

Water-resources officials inspected drought-affected areas in Sangkae and Ek Phnom on July 4, 2026. They reported that areas previously facing water shortages had received sufficient rain; earlier affected rice-growing land totalled 18,362 hectares.

Battambang: At the direction of Water Resources and Meteorology Minister ថោ ជេដ្ឋា, the provincial water resources and meteorology department sent a team to inspect and assess drought-affected areas in Sangkae and Ek Phnom districts.

The July 4, 2026 inspection was led by provincial department director ខៃ សុដា, representing the minister. The team worked with technical officials, district agriculture, environment and natural-resources officials, local authorities and commune agricultural officers to examine rice crops and water sources in affected areas.

According to the team, most affected rice fields were far from water sources, making emergency irrigation difficult. Previously, drought had affected a total of 18,362 hectares of rice-growing land: 10,593 hectares in Sangkae and 7,769 hectares in Ek Phnom.

By July 4, 2026, however, conditions had improved: areas previously at risk of water shortages had received sufficient rainfall, helping reduce risks and restore agricultural production in the two districts.
