Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet said Cambodia had plans to build more roads and road sections with China in the coming years, with most projects supported by concessional loans from the Chinese government.
He made the remarks at the official inauguration of a 45.489-kilometre section of National Road 7, from the Skun roundabout to the roundabout at the foot of the Kizuna Bridge in Kampong Cham city, on the morning of July 7, 2026.
Hun Manet said: “We are continuing the work of construction, and it does not end with the inauguration of this National Road 7 section, from the Skun roundabout to the Kizuna Bridge roundabout in Kampong Cham province. As Peng Ponea mentioned earlier, we will continue with more projects in 2026 and 2027. There are additional road sections to build, and a large share is financed through concessional loans from the People’s Republic of China.”
He added that the inauguration symbolised Cambodia–China relations and their continuity. He recalled that the groundbreaking had been attended by Hun Sen, the former prime minister and now Senate President, together with Wang Wentian, the former Chinese ambassador to Cambodia. By the inauguration, there was a new government term, a new prime minister and a new ambassador, but the achievement remained.
The prime minister thanked the Chinese government and people for their continuing support for Cambodia’s development and investment in various private sectors, especially assistance in building physical infrastructure to support the economy and improve people’s living conditions.
