Yesterday, July 15, 2026, Secretary of State ចាន់ ស៊ីណាត, representing Minister of Water Resources and Meteorology ថោ ជេដ្ឋា, chaired a briefing on the repair and restoration of Canal 61 in Kandal and Kampong Speu provinces. The meeting took place in the Kandal Stueng district administration’s meeting hall.
Participants included representatives of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the General Department responsible for addressing project impacts, the water resources and meteorology departments of Phnom Penh and Kandal, as well as relevant local authorities, commune chiefs and village chiefs.
The Secretary of State said that developing the irrigation system and restoring Canal 61 are essential responses to residents’ water needs in the two provinces and surrounding areas. He added that the canal system plays an important role not only in drainage, intercepting water and storing it for multiple uses, but also in helping prevent rainy-season flooding in Phnom Penh and the two provinces.
