The Kratie Provincial Department of Environment carried out an operation at a site suspected of illegal gold exploration in Prey Lang Wildlife Sanctuary after receiving reports of unlawful activity.
On July 16, 2026, គា ប៊ូ, Director of the Kratie Provincial Department of Environment, led rangers and specialist officers to inspect the location at ថ្មពួយ, Kampong Cham commune, Sambour district, Kratie province.
During the operation, officers found signs of digging at one site suspected of gold exploration, but did not find any suspects. They found only a tarpaulin tent used as temporary accommodation.
The team immediately dismantled and destroyed the tent to prevent those involved from returning to continue illegal activities in the protected area.
គា ប៊ូ said rangers would continue strengthening patrols, investigations and strict enforcement against all forms of natural resource offences in the protected area, without exceptions for any offender.
