Summary

The Anti-Technology Crime Department issued advice on July 19, 2026, warning about unrealistic high-paying job offers, requests for personal information and demands for payment before starting work.

After observing that online scammers were using increasingly sophisticated methods to lure people into traps through social media, the Anti-Technology Crime Department issued guidance on the morning of July 19, 2026, setting out key advice to help people protect themselves against such scams.

According to the department, offenders commonly use a range of inducements, including advertisements for easy jobs offering unrealistically high earnings or other benefits, to deceive victims or confine them and force them into illegal activities.

To avoid becoming a victim, the department recommended several precautions: do not trust online job advertisements promising unrealistically high earnings without clear information or employment conditions; do not give personal information, such as identity card details, bank account numbers or confidential data, to people whose identities are unknown; research and verify the source of the information, and carefully check a company’s licence and identity before registering or applying for a job; and be alert to warning signs such as demands for a deposit or other fees before starting work, as this is a common tactic used by scammers.

The department also called on people to share these precautions with their families, relatives and communities, so that they could work together to prevent and reduce technology-based scams.
