Labour attaché officials at Cambodia’s embassy in Thailand are working closely with Thai authorities on rescue efforts and the continuing search for Cambodian workers who went missing after a fishing boat sank off Trat province, Thailand.
ស៊ុន មេសា, spokesperson for the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training, said on the afternoon of July 20, 2026 that the fishing boat had departed on June 28, 2026, but had lost contact with its owner and the authorities from July 10, 2026.
As of that update, he said, rescuers had found three of the five people aboard the fishing boat: two Cambodians and one Thai national.
Of the two Cambodian bodies, one had been handed over to the family for traditional funeral rites, while the other remained at a hospital awaiting collection by relatives.
ស៊ុន មេសា added that Cambodian officials in Thailand and the relevant authorities were continuing to follow up and search for two other Cambodian workers who were believed to have died in the incident.
The labour ministry spokesperson stressed that protecting the safety and welfare of Cambodians living and working abroad was a priority for the Royal Government. He said it consistently paid close attention and coordinated with the host country’s authorities to help resolve problems as they arose.
