Summary

At a July 22 meeting with Prime Minister Hun Manet, FBI Director Kash Patel pledged continued law-enforcement cooperation. Hun Manet said Cambodia would host an international anti-online-scam conference in September 2026.

(Phnom Penh): Cambodia and the FBI expressed their commitment to further strengthening security cooperation between the two countries, while the FBI said U.S.–Cambodia relations would continue to grow stronger. This followed a meeting between Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Kash Patel, Director of the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), at the Peace Palace on the morning of July 22, 2026.

On that occasion, Kash Patel praised Cambodia’s efforts and operations against technology-enabled fraud. The FBI Director stressed that such fraud is not an isolated problem of any one country. He said commitment and regional and global cooperation are key to jointly fighting this crime, rather than placing the burden on one another. He also affirmed the United States’ firm commitment to continuing cooperation, support and partnership with Cambodia’s law-enforcement institutions, and expressed optimism that U.S.–Cambodia relations would continue to grow stronger.

In response, Prime Minister Hun Manet welcomed the positive progress in Cambodia–U.S. relations in many areas, including the economy, trade, investment, defence and security. He said the two countries had good security cooperation and reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to continuing close cooperation with the United States against transnational crime, drug trafficking and technology-enabled fraud.

The Prime Minister added that Cambodia would host an international conference on combating technology-enabled fraud in September 2026 to help strengthen international cooperation in addressing this regional and global challenge. He also thanked the United States for its past cooperation in information sharing and capacity building for Cambodian law-enforcement officers.

Cambodia and the FBI also exchanged views on future directions for security cooperation between Cambodia and the United States against transnational crime, drug trafficking and technology-enabled fraud, stressing the importance of continued information sharing and capacity building for law-enforcement officers.
