Summary

Preah Sihanouk hosted the Lao Women’s Union delegation on July 24, with the governor expressing hope for closer ties and new Lao investment opportunities.

PREAH SIHANOUK — The provincial administration held a solidarity dinner to welcome a Lao Women’s Union delegation at Sokha Beach Hotel on the evening of July 24, 2026. The event was presided over by ម៉ែន សំអន, Supreme Privy Councillor to the King and president of the Cambodian Women’s Association for Peace and Development, and Preah Sihanouk Governor ម៉ាង ស៊ីណេត.

In his remarks, ម៉ាង ស៊ីណេត recalled that Cambodia and Laos formally established diplomatic relations in 1956, 70 years ago, while the peoples of the two countries had maintained close contacts for hundreds of years.

He said bilateral relations had now been elevated to a “comprehensive strategic partnership and long-lasting friendship,” a level of relations supporting exchanges of senior leaders and institutional delegations to advance cooperation in various fields, strengthen traditional Cambodia–Laos friendship and ensure the highest possible degree of peace and stability in diplomacy.

The governor expressed his firm hope that the Lao Women’s Union’s visit would make an important contribution to nurturing traditional friendship, strong solidarity and good neighbourliness, and to strengthening and expanding close cooperation between the two governments and peoples. In particular, he expected closer links between the Cambodian Women’s Association for Peace and Development and the Lao Women’s Union, and new opportunities for Lao investors to invest in the beautiful province of Preah Sihanouk, which has been designated a model multi-purpose special economic zone.
