Summary

Police searched three Phnom Penh sites, detained one Cambodian and three Chinese suspects and seized electronic equipment before referring the case to court.

The National Police’s Department of Anti-Cybercrime launched an operation against the storage and trading of electronic equipment used for technology-enabled fraud inside and outside Cambodia. The operation followed orders from National Police Commissioner General ស ថេត and guidance from a lieutenant general serving as a Deputy National Police Commissioner.

Working with joint forces and under coordination by a representative of the prosecutor’s office attached to the Phnom Penh Municipal Court, officers searched three locations in Phnom Penh. Four suspects were detained: one Cambodian and three Chinese nationals.

Seized evidence included one car, around 3,000-plus mobile phones, 40-plus laptops and desktop computers, 900-plus other items of equipment and components, and 32,000-plus domestic and foreign telephone SIM cards.

The four suspects and all evidence have been referred to the Phnom Penh Municipal Court for legal proceedings.

The judicial authorities brought charges of technology-enabled fraud committed by an organised group and complicity in technology-enabled fraud committed by an organised group, and ordered a further investigation into money laundering.

The Department of Anti-Cybercrime urged the public not to buy, sell or store electronic equipment used for technology-related offences, and to report known or suspected activity immediately to help safeguard society.
