Summary

Zhou Wendong said Wuxi tourism companies planned visits and outlined three areas for cooperation with Preah Sihanouk.

Zhou Wendong, vice-mayor of Wuxi in Jiangsu province, said at the 2026 Tourism Business Forum and Chinese tourism familiarisation trip in Preah Sihanouk on the morning of July 29 that many tourism companies in Wuxi planned to visit the Cambodian province.

The forum was presided over by Tourism Minister Huot Hak and Preah Sihanouk governor Mang Sineth. Approximately 250 people attended, including the director of Sihanouk International Airport, representatives of ministries and institutions, local authorities, Cambodia–China friendship and investment associations, Chinese media and tourism operators. Participants included around 40 domestic and 40 Chinese tourism companies.

Zhou said China and Cambodia were ironclad friends and that bilateral relations had deepened strategically in recent years, with the China–Cambodia community with a shared future entering a new era. He also described Wuxi, Jiangsu province, China, and Cambodia’s Preah Sihanouk province as sister localities.

The vice-mayor noted Preah Sihanouk’s natural islands, long white-sand beaches and clear blue seas as highly attractive tourism assets. He described Wuxi as located in China’s eastern coastal region, with beautiful mountains and waters and rich historical and cultural tourism resources. In his view, the two localities’ tourism and cultural resources complement each other.

He said exchanges between the two sister localities had strengthened over the past three years and that more than 2,000 Cambodian tourists had visited Wuxi, further improving bilateral visitor exchanges. Zhou stated that Cambodia had exempted Chinese citizens from visas from June 15 to October 15, 2026 to encourage visitor exchanges and tourism links between the two localities.

Zhou said he supported and had encouraged Wuxi businesses and tourism companies to explore cooperation in infrastructure, culture and tourism in Preah Sihanouk. Wuxi would use the forum as a starting point to strengthen cooperation in three areas: joint tourism marketing, regular exchanges of visits, and opening investment channels in culture and tourism between the two localities.
