Summary

Cambodia’s agriculture and tourism ministries signed an MoU on August 1, 2026 to link farm production with tourism through green belts.

On August 1, 2026, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries and the Ministry of Tourism signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cooperation to promote green belts in tourism areas. The aim is to link agriculture and tourism more effectively, raise farmers’ incomes, strengthen community economies and advance the policy of “on-site exports.”

The signing ceremony took place at the ASEAN-Korea-Cambodia Garden in Siem Reap province, presided over by Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Minister Dith Tina and Tourism Minister Huot Hak.

The memorandum focuses on creating agricultural supply chains linking farming communities with tourism areas to ensure fresh, quality and stable supplies. It also seeks to add value to agritourism, boost local economies and strengthen major tourism destinations, particularly Siem Reap province.

The two ministries said the cooperation would benefit all parties: farmers and local communities would gain reliable markets and better incomes, while tourism businesses could use fresh, high-quality domestic agricultural products with traceable origins.

Domestic and international visitors would also gain new experiences by visiting agricultural production chains and learning about the potential of Cambodian farm products, helping agriculture and tourism develop together.

The ministries emphasized that “on-site exports” are an important strategy for adding value to agricultural products. Each tourism area should obtain vegetables, fish, meat and other farm products directly from local sources. This approach would reduce transport costs, increase farm incomes, strengthen community economies and promote sustainable development. By: Pai Sokhim
