At the Human Rights Council on October 2, Cambodia’s Geneva representative Ke Sovann called for practical support to help displaced people return home.

At the 63rd session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, on 2 October 2026, Ke Sovann, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Cambodia to the United Nations Office at Geneva, delivered an intervention on Agenda Item 10, highlighting key points on the promotion of human rights and international cooperation:
Call to assist displaced people: Cambodia called on the United Nations and the international community to provide additional tangible support to help more than 20,000 Cambodian displaced people affected by the border conflict return safely and with dignity to their original homes.
Lessons from protracted war and past national division have led Cambodia to adopt "peace, development, the rule of law and the well-being of the people" as the core pillars of protecting and promoting human rights.
Cambodia insists that any assessment must uphold the principles of justice, balance, impartiality, and be based on thoroughly verified factual data.
The Permanent Representative expressed regret over certain recommendations that place full responsibility on Cambodia for complex issues that require the involvement of relevant parties and international cooperation to resolve, such as the situation of displaced people along the Cambodia-Thailand border and the suppression of transnational crime.
Alongside these remarks, Cambodia reaffirmed its strong commitment to continuing close cooperation with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) to further promote the rights, freedoms and interests of the Cambodian people. By: Pai Sokhim
