The Preah Sihanouk Tourism Department held a workshop on the afternoon of March 17 to gather input for a five-year tourism development plan for 2026–2030. It was chaired by Tourism Under-Secretary of State Mahammat Yuneh and Deputy Governor Samut Sothearith, with departmental, hotel and condominium representatives attending.
Department director Taing Socheat Krisna said tourism offerings needed improvement for visitors of different nationalities, and that natural and coastal areas remained insufficiently studied and developed. He urged public and private participation, including roads supported by public works and rural development departments and internet services supported by postal and telecommunications authorities.
He said the province remained short of tourism villages, cultural activities attractive to European visitors, night markets, pub streets and quality souvenir shops, and that work was being advanced within the 2026–2030 plan.
The deputy governor said the plan could support economic growth, cultural and natural conservation, employment, income and poverty reduction, providing direction for sustainable tourism.
The tourism under-secretary said it would set a vision, direction and priorities for quality, efficient and sustainable tourism, providing a basis for improvements and future development needs.
